The Waihi Railway Station Historic area contains the most complete collection of early railway structures left in New Zealand. It is representative of the typical country station both in the placement and in the design of the remaining structures. The collection includes the station building, Goods Shed, Stock Yards, Semaphore Signals, Gents Toilets, Single Mens Huts, Jigger Sheds, a Wooden Derrick Crane, Railway houses and sidings. Even those structures which are not rare individually attain considerable significance as part of this collection.
As well as the rolling stock Goldfields Railway sites contain a variety of Non Passenger rolling stock awaiting restoration. These include F564 Guards Van – LH2042, 7824 & 20306 – MC2012 & 142 – UG42 – XA896 – VB’s 381 & 1570 – H1311 – KP’s 1835 & 3168 – T80 and UC 873. There is also a variety of velocipedes and motor trolleys housed at Waihi Station, some which are still used on a daily basis to carry out track maintenance. See our photo gallery.
