Hauraki Rail Trail
Incorporate our heritage train ride between Waihi and Waikino into your Rail Trail experience. We have a bike wagon on the train. You haven't done the Rail Trail unless you've been on the train.
One of the best ways to experience the beautiful Hauraki District is to ride or walk the Rail Trail. A grade one trail, it is suitable for all ages and abilities. Winding from Waihi to Waikino, through the spectacular Karangahake Gorge and on to Paeroa, explore the rich history and beauty of the area.
Enjoy a Devonshire scone with a cuppa at the friendly Waikino Station Café. Pack a picnic lunch to enjoy at the swimming hole and waterfall at Owharoa, or kick back with a glass of wine for a leisurely lunch at one of the eateries in the Gorge; there is something to suit every taste and budget.
Steeped in history, the relics of the main railway line between Paeroa and Waihi and the gold mining era have been preserved and are ready for you to explore. A visit to the Victoria Battery provides a wealth of information on just how the area boomed during the gold rush.
